Self Made World (SMW) is an online resource for aspiring and recent immigrants and immigrant-entrepreneurs. It contains video/audio biography style interviews of successful immigrants and immigrant-entrepreneurs. Prospective and recent immigrants come to the site for practical advice as well as inspiration from successful predecessors.
SMW features biographies of successful immigrants and immigrant-entrepreneurs who have come from all over the world, found their optimal vocation, and found personal success and fulfillment as in ‘the American dream’. Profiled immigrants answer questions about how and why they decided to leave their home country, why they chose the destination that they chose, the process of securing the requisite visa and immigration status, what they found when they arrived, how they settled on their current livelihood, challenges they overcame in the process, and a description of their current lifestyle and typical day.
The initial focus of Self Made World will be on immigrants into the US, but the model can be easily expanded to include immigrants to any country. The tone is upbeat, optimistic and pro-immigrant, but without a political agenda. SMW does not exist to advocate any particular immigration law or policy, but to celebrate immigrants and immigration and to offer guidance and advice to recent and prospective immigrants.
